Nature

Your skin is covered in invisible ink, darling
The kind of ink that only the special few can read
The kind you’re whispered about before dawn breaks
The kind that live on the crest of a newborn wave
The kind that arrive just when they’re meant to

They look at you with eyes of cedar and primrose,
Filled with the majesty of rainforests and the hum of waterfalls
With skin as dry as the great pyramids and as worn as the patchwork coat a little girl might wear as she passes you on the street
But they’re as broken up as the Hawaiian Islands
And sometimes, they look just like Stonehenge
But they’ve got hearts that’re golden,
As bright and as warm as a bonfire
But not the kind that’re made up in American Fork Canyon, no. Those aren’t bright enough.

They’re the kind that don’t see just stars, or train rides, or a group of people clustered on a park bench
They see past, present and future as one.
They see arguments, ideas, and opportunities.
They see old friends, they see simplicity, the warmth of a jacket, the destination of water droplets.
Both a heart shaped birthmark and a cockroach shaped splotch
Both mistakes and lessons

But your skin is still made of paper, darling
Your coffin is crafted of your dreams
And the box you’re trapped in is the one you designed
It’s important to remember that although the past is eternal,
The present is temporary
And the future doesn’t exist.

Starlit nights in Paris are only starlit nights in Paris until they’re part of the present.
That’s when they turn to magic

As much as you might hate it,
You’re a force of nature.
You weren’t made for the world, the world was made for you
If there’s one truth at the end of the day, it’s that you exist
You’re alive
Everything you are in that moment, in every moment is what’s written on your skin
In that invisible writing that only a few can read
Because in that moment, you’re real, you’re honest and you’re something that logic says shouldn’t exist but does because shoulds and shouldn’ts are for people who don’t understand life.
In that moment, you're eternal.
